Why join AFSCME?
As AFSCME members, we have the power to make a difference. By joining together, AFSCME members
have clout at the ballot box, in the halls of government and at the bargaining table. AFSCME is one of the nation's most powerful
advocates for working families.
As AFSCME members, we have the resources needed to fight for — and win —
social and economic justice on the job. AFSCME is equipped with staff, expert negotiators and attorneys. AFSCME negotiates
strong contracts, wins wage increases, protects jobs, settles grievances, stops privatization and ensures benefits for members
from every field of public service

AFSCME Local 3101 Wants You!
Members run the Union – this means you,
and we need your help!
To protect our current benefits and to ensure better contracts, please consider the following:
Did you know
that your job does not negotiate your benefits, your Union does!
Did you realize
that the more dues members we have increases our negotiating muscle?
With our last
contract, did you know that without AFSCME in our corner, the Commonwealth wanted to take back 2 paid days and wanted us to
pay even more for much less medical coverage, among other concessions?
Did you know
we came closer to a strike with our current contract than we have since the 1970s because the Commonwealth did not begin to
bend on negotiations until
5 p.m. on the
last day?
Did you know
that the difference between paying fair share and paying dues is only ½ of 1%, which is ½ of a penny on every dollar?
Did you know that as a dues paying Union member, you receive benefits only available to AFSCME members
and not to AFSCME fair share fee payers? Listed below are a few:
ü Participate in AFSCME meetings;
ü Help develop and formulate AFSCME policy;
ü Run for office in AFSCME;
ü Run for a delegate’s position to
Council 13’s Convention and the International Convention;
ü Participate in drafting AFSCME demands
in collective bargaining;
ü Vote or participate in AFSCME contract
ratification meetings;
ü Receive additional benefits and participate
in programs solely available to AFSCME dues paying members and their families, i.e., AFSCME Scholarship Program and the cost
saving AFSCME credit card program;
ü Pre-paid Legal services;
ü Vehicle and insurance discounts;
ü Credit counseling and financial planning;
ü Education planning and financial services.
AFSCME is not as concerned about the money as with the strength our membership adds to our collective
voice when protecting our rights and benefits with contract negotiations as a Commonwealth employee.
For pennies a day, you can enjoy full AFSCME membership with all of its benefits. Joining is easy. If you never filled out a green card or joined
using the Employee Self Service System (SAP/ESS), you are not a member; you are only paying fair share.
Please consider becoming a member and joining us in the fight to preserve our benefits.
By joining, you also are a member of:
· The largest full-fledged participating
union in the AFL-CIO;
· The largest public employee union in
the AFL‑CIO;
· The largest public employee union in
the PA AFL-CIO;
· The fastest growing union in the country;
and
· The union with the greatest growth record
in the last decade.
Local 3101 meets monthly on the 4th Thursday every month.
